Indoor Track competes with hundreds of athletes in Simplot Games

Green River’s Indoor Track team traveled to Pocatello, Idaho this past week to compete in one of the top high school Indoor Track meets in the nation, the Simplot Games. The team headed to the ICCU Dome, formerly the Holt Arena, on the campus of Idaho State University along with 21 other teams from Wyoming, as well as teams from many states and some foreign countries. There were as many as 300 competitors in some events.

Green River’s top performance was from their girls throwers as Junior Lillian Allison finished fifth in the weight throw, followed closely by fellow junior Amanda Davis, who was seventh. Allison also placed in the Shot Put, taking eighth place. The girls’ 1600 Meter Sprint Medley team consisting of Junior Mikayla Dockter, Sophomores Lily and Isabelle Murdock and Senior Madison Murdock took 25th place in the field of 32 teams.

In the girls 800 Meter Run, Isabelle Murdock placed 25th in the field of 115 runners, improving her time by 14 seconds. Madison Murdock finished in 52nd place, improving her time this year by four seconds.

For the boys, Chaz Helmandollar improved his time in the 60 Meter Dash from 7.59 to 7.48 to place 46th in the field of 105 sprinters, while teammate Raab Poignee was 69th after improving his time from 7.65 to 7.59. Also for the boys, Dallan Rosene finished 99th and Jared Comerer was 109th.

Head Track Coach Dan Hansen was pleased by many of the athletes’ performances as there were a lot of personal bests recorded. Coach Hansen hopes this trend will continue with their next meet indoors at the University of Wyoming to help build the momentum for the upcoming State meet the following week.
