The Green River Wolves Swimming and Diving team traveled east to compete in the Laramie Invitational last weekend. The teams competing were Green River, Rock Springs, Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, Douglas, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Lander, Natrona County, Newcastle, Rawlins, Riverton, Sheridan, Thunder Basin and Worland.
On Friday, the Laramie Pre-Invite was a non-scored meet.
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the "A" team came in 11th place, with the team consisting of the swimmers Mitchell Horn, Colin Gilmore, Dallan Owens and Aiden Zimmerman. In the 200 Yard Freestyle event, Logan Wadsworth came in 22nd along with Aiden Neher in 23rd. In the 200 Yard IM, Andrew Neher came in 17th place, while Colin Gilmore took ninth in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Gilmore also finished strong in sixth place in the 100 Yard Freestyle, and Owens took 10th place in the 100 Yard Butterfly along with Horn taking 11th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Andrew Neher finished 10th in the 500 Yard Freestyle and Ashton Hafner finished 19th in the 100 Yard Backstroke. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Green River's "A" team finished in 11th place. The swimmers were Zimmerman, Irie Kuball, Hafner and Andrew Neher. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the "A"team took 12th place with the swimmers Andrew Neher, Horn, Hafner and Gilmore.
On Saturday, the Wolves placed ninth out of 17 teams competing. All the teams that participated in the Pre-Invite competed, plus Cheyenne East and Cheyenne South. Leading the Wolves were Gilmore, placing second in the 500 Yard Freestyle and third in the 200 Yard Freestyle, along with Gailey taking fifth in the One-Meter Diving.
Head Coach Colleen Seiloff was pleased with the results and explained that they picked up three more qualified athletes for State and there were qualified swimmers that picked up additional events. Diver Johnny Renfro qualified along with Kaiden Dodson and Landon Meese. Seiloff said they now have 16 out of 22 boys that will be able to compete at the State Championships.
Heading into the Conference weekend, there are swimmers that haven't qualified yet that will be resting and not participating in morning practices, but the rest of the team will be hitting practices exhausted.
"We're just going to keep hammering them," said Coach Seiloff. "This week will be fairly hard."
The Wolves will travel to Pinedale on Friday to compete in the 3A West Conference Championships that will take place on Friday and Saturday.
