Wolves fight Star Valley into double overtime

The Green River High School Boys Basketball team fought hard against the number one team in the west when they took on Star Valley in an intense game last Saturday. Unfortunately the Wolves came up just short of victory, losing by just a few points in double overtime.

The first half of the game was neck-and-neck between the Wolves and the Braves. Both teams played strong offensively and defensively from the start. Theran Archibald and Chris Wilson led Green River, scoring 13 points each.

In the third quarter, the Wolves took the lead and held onto it. By the end of the quarter they were beating the Braves 50-46.

In the fourth quarter, with just 10 seconds left in the game, the score was 69-67 with Green River still in the lead. The Wolves had possession of the ball, but with time ticking down Star Valley managed to steal the ball, shoot a basket and tie the game.

The Wolves and Braves went into overtime. Green River got the ball on the jump, and the teams stayed neck-and-neck for the full four minutes. In the last minute, the score was tied 71-71. With 14 seconds left on the clock, Star Valley shot and missed, so the teams went into double overtime.

Star Valley got the jump in double overtime and managed to pull ahead in the last few minutes, finally defeating the Wolves 85-82.

Both teams played strong throughout the entire game, resulting in the nail-biting competition and close finish.

"We played our best game of the season on Saturday," Head Coach Laurie Ivie said of the game against Star Valley. "We out-rebounded the Braves, and shot the ball really well."

Archibald and Wilson led the Wolves throughout the game. Archibald had "another huge game" for the Wolves, according to Coach Ivie, with 30 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Wilson wasn't far behind, with 25 points as well as four rebounds and two assists. Other Wolves helped keep the score high as well, with Adrian Ruiz contributing 10 points, Hunter Lake scoring nine, A.J. Keelin scoring six, and Daxton Taylor scoring two. Keelin also had seven rebounds, and Lake, Ruiz, and Taylor had three rebounds each.

Today the Wolves will take on the Rock Springs Tigers in Rock Springs at 7:30 p.m. The team will then travel to Casper to face Kelly Walsh on Saturday.
