Boys and Girls Indoor Track starts season at BYU Invitational

With the start of a shortened seven-week Indoor Track season, the Green River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track team traveled south this past week to Provo, Utah for the BYU Invitational. They competed with a huge field of over 1,000 competitors, including four other Wyoming teams with Evanston, Mountain View, Pinedale and Star Valley taking part. There were well over 200 competitors in some of the events.

Two Green River competitors, one each for the girls and boys, finished in the top eight, scoring points for their team. For the girls, Junior Shot Putter Lillian Allison was the top finisher of the day for all Green River competitors, taking third place with a throw of 36-6.75. For the boys, Junior Pole Vaulter Trace Erdman took eighth place, clearing 12-0 feet.

The team also had seven competitors qualify for the prestigious Simplot Games later this season, with Trace Erdman’s 12-0 vault achieving a new school record. Head Coach Dan Hansen is pleased with the team’s progress to date and is looking forward to them getting additional chances to compete this week.

Next up for the Green River Track team will be another big meet in Utah at the Weber State Invitational in Ogden.
