Wrestlers compete in Thoman Tournament

The 2024 Thoman Soda Ash Memorial Wrestling Tournament was hosted this past Friday and Saturday by Green River High School. The tournament format included Boys Varsity Duals, Boys J.V., Girls teams, and the Best of the Best Competition. The Wolves competed as one of the twenty-three high schools from Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.

The Green River Boys Wrestling Varsity team competed in Pool A in dual meets against teams from Laramie, Big Piney, and Cokeville, Wyoming; Roosevelt, Colorado; and Salem Hills, Utah. The Wolves won their pool, defeating Laramie 44-33, Big Piney 57-24, Cokeville 84-0 as the team did not make the trip, Salem Hills 57-24 and Roosevelt 47-30. In the semi finals, Green River lost to Cheyenne East in a close match that ended 41-36 before coming back in the third place match to defeat Rock Springs 42-27.

Green River also had four wrestlers qualify to wrestle in the Best of Best Competition. Lucas Todd won his match at 113 pounds, and Nick Weipert won his at 144 pounds. Spencer Wright lost his match at 126 pounds, and James Herwaldt lost his match at 165 pounds.

In the Girls team competition, the Lady Wolves fielded a team of seven wrestlers who finished fifth.

In the Boys J.V. Competition, there were some brackets in which matches were not completed.

Next up for Green River Wrestling will be the Lander Tournament this Friday and Saturday, January 19-20.
