Wolves win two of three Flaming Gorge Classic games

The Green River High School Boys Basketball team came out ready to fight for the Flaming Gorge Classic.

The annual tournament hosted by Green River took place December 14 to 16, with the Wolves facing three opponents and coming away victorious in two games.

Green River got started early with a game against Rawlins on Thursday night. It was a strong start to the tournament, with the Wolves coming away with a 58-51 victory. Hunter Lake, Adrian Ruiz, and Theran Archibald were the top scorers for the Wolves, contributing 43 points between the three of them. Lake scored 18 points, Ruiz scored 13 and Archibald scored 12. Ruiz had 10 rebounds, while Daxton Taylor contributed six rebounds and A.J. Keelin had five. Archibald and Lake also helped with assists and steals, with Archibald having four assists and two steals and Lake having three assists and two steals.

The Wolves' second game was Friday against Mountain View. Once again, the team hit the court strong, gaining an even more decisive win with a final score of 67-49. Lake and Archibald once again led the team in scoring, making 19 baskets each. Chris Wilson also scored 15 points. Archibald led with 11 rebounds and four assists, and Ruiz and Keelin both had eight rebounds.

The last game of the tournament was against Lyman on Saturday. While the Wolves kept fighting and kept the competition close, they ended up losing by just four points, with Lyman taking the win 51-47. Lake led the team with 17 points, followed by Archibald with 10 and Wilson with seven. Keelin led the rebound efforts with 11 rebounds, while Ruiz got seven. Lake also had two assists and two steals, and Wilson had three steals.

The Wolves will get a chance to rest during the Christmas break before coming back in the new year. The team will travel for the Cheyenne Invite January 4-6.
