The Green River High School Boys Wrestling team got their 2023/24 wrestling season under way this past week, competing in the very tough Wasatch Duels in Heber, Utah.
The tournament hosted 15 other teams from Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. The meet had competition in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions.
The Wolves competed against eight other teams, including Fruita Monument, Colorado, and two perennial powerhouse teams from Utah — Mountain Ridge and Wasatch.
Green River finished the two day tourney with a 5-3 team record. One of the losses came at the hands of one of Colorado’s top programs in their 5A largest schools in State division, where the Wolves tied with Fruita Monument, Colorado. Fruita Monument won on a tiebreaker after Green River lost one of their matches on an injury forfeit.
“Overall we are happy with how all of our teams competed last week,” Head Coach Josh Wisniewski said, adding that he is “looking forward to seeing how we compete in Reno and Kemmerer this weekend.”
Next up for the boys, they will go from a very tough and prestigious regional tourney to the elite Reno Tournament of Champions National Tournament in Reno, Nevada on December 15-16.
