Lady Wolves beat Evanston and Jackson

The Lady Wolves Volleyball team has been working extremely hard this season, and that hard work paid off when Green River earned great victories over the Evanston Red Devils and the Jackson Hole Broncs.

On Thursday, Green River traveled to Evanston and played a conference match against the Red Devils. Both teams played strong the first set, but Green River pulled ahead, winning the set 26-24. Green River continued fighting and stepped up their offense and defense, winning the second set 25-15 and the third set 25-18.

On Saturday, Green River hosted a conference match against the Broncs. The Lady Wolves stood on the court with confidence and great energy as they took the lead early on in the first set. It was an exciting set to watch as Green River earned their first win of the day, 25-17.

The second set was very intense and the teams stayed neck-and-neck most of the game with both teams playing strong, both teams wanting the win. Green River missed a couple important plays at the end and Jackson pulled ahead and took the win. Green River lost the set 22-25.

After a short break, the third set started and Jackson had the lead in the beginning of the game. After a time out, Green River came back on the court determined to beat Jackson. The Lady Wolves started outscoring the Broncs and Green River's tall defense helped keep Jackson behind them. Serves from Addison Demaret helped score points for the team late in the set, and they earned their second win 25-20.

In the fourth set, Green River lead the way in the beginning with some great serves from Rylee Rosas and digs from Abigail Fuss and Haidyn Terry. On the net, blocks from Eva Murray, Taycie Fox, Sophia Arnold, Mckinley Killpack and Sydnie Eastman kept Jackson from scoring points during the game. Mid-game, Jackson caught up to Green River and the game was tied. Rosas had some more amazing serves and there were skilled kills from Demaret and Murray that put the Lady Wolves ahead of Jackson. Terry hit the floor, saving the ball, along with more kills from Demaret and Murray that gave Green River the lead, 24-18. Murray served the ball and a kill from Arnold gave the Lady Wolves the last point they needed. The cheering from the Lady Wolves and the crowd echoed through the gym as Green River won the final match against the Lady Broncs, 25-18.

Head Coach Jessica Demaret feels the victories are a direct reflection of overall teamwork.

"The girls are starting to feel comfortable in a new rotation and everyone is stepping up and really doing a good job of fulfilling their roles on the team," explained Coach Demaret. "Our defensive game has been great over the course of the year and that only continues to get better with each match."

She said they have been focusing on putting the ball away in practices the last few weeks and they are also starting to see that improve, which, combined with their defensive efforts, has lead to some success for them in the last week. This is their last week of the regular season and they are focusing on their two games this week, hoping to come away with another win or two and keep building their confidence up before the Regional tournament. She also said the girls have been practicing at a high, competitive level and they want to continue to improve and fine tune a few things over the course of the next couple of weeks.

The Lady Wolves played a game against the Rock Springs Tigers on Tuesday and they will travel for a conference match against the Star Valley Braves on Saturday. The 4A Regional Tournament will take place in Green River on October 26-28.
