Extremely talented swimmers come out on top

The Green River Lady Wolves Swimming and Diving team competed in the Gillette Invitational on Friday and Saturday, going up against 19 teams from around the state and one team from North Dakota. The Lady Wolves came out on top, once again proving how strong their team is and the abundance of determination they possess.

On Saturday, stand-out swimmers scored major points that helped Green River take home the win. Arnell took first place in the 100 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Butterfly, along with Smith who took second place in the 100 Yard Freestyle and third place in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Clevenger took third place in the 500 Yard Freestyle, along with Brianna Uhrig placing sixth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and Luth placing 11th in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Green River raked in the points with their “A” relay teams winning second place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, along with an eighth-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Diver Kaili Wadsworth had impressive dives and placed ninth while Natalie Walgren was unfortunately disqualified.

“Gillette has a great pool and we like to swim in it,” said Head Coach Colleen Seiloff. “There was awesome competition and we got to go there and swim against girls we haven’t got to swim against, so that was nice.”

Coach Seiloff feels the girls did very well and stepped up. She says the whole team is very competitive and it was a well-deserved win for the Lady Wolves. She believes the Gillette Invitational was really about quality, because when you are swimming against so many teams, only a couple of your girls are going to place in the top 20, and Green River has extremely talented girls.

To prepare for Conference this week, the Lady Wolves are going to be working very hard with really aggressive workouts.

“It’s not time to rest,” explained Coach Seiloff. “The girls are going to very tired and that’s the way we want it.”

Green River is hosting the 3A West Conference Championships on October 20 at 1 p.m. and October 21 at 10 a.m. Come and show your support for the Lady Wolves!
