The Green River High School Cross Country team wrapped up their regular season meets close to home during the Rock Springs "Tough Pumpkin" XC Meet at the White Mountain Golf Course last Friday.
The girls team raced first, and the Lady Wolves were off to a strong start, with Isabelle Murdock maintaining the lead throughout most of the course, and her sister Madison Murdock close behind. As the runners approached the finish line, however, some of the runners from Evanston began to push ahead for the lead. Madison picked up speed and crossed the finish line in second place, just 1.70 seconds behind the winner. Isabelle came in fourth, less than five seconds behind the third-place finish. Ellie Quiroz came in 14th, with Lily Murdock close behind in 16th. Gwendalynn Lopez and Liliana Adams kept pushing to come in 38th and 44th, respectively.
Overall, the Green River girls took second place, coming in behind Evanston but beating Lyman, Rock Springs and Mountain View.
The young boys team kept pushing to work on their speed and endurance, with Jesse Kimble once again leading the team and coming in 16th. The other boys finished close to each other, with Isaiah Still and Jordan Andrew in 27th and 28th respectively, Trace Erdmann and Hunter Rushing in 37th and 38th respectively, and Keegan Gailey in 45th and Ryan Kranz in 49th out of 69 runners.
The Cross Country boys and girls teams headed to Riverton for Regionals this week and will be preparing for State next week.
