The Actors' Mission Community Theater will host an Oktoberfest Fundraiser on Saturday, October 7 from 1-7 p.m. at Bunning Park. The event will feature craft beers individually sold by Square State and Bad Joker Brewing Companies, German food fare sold by Innovative Dining Concepts and live music performances by local favorites Atlas Falls and Nowhere Fast.
Attendees may bid on baskets and packages during the silent auction and purchase raffle tickets for prize packages including a Wyoming Booze Wagon, original art by David Gutierrez and a "Warm Wyoming Night" package including a fire pit, a cord of firewood and other amenities. There will also be a cornhole tournament starting at 1 p.m.
Admission tickets range $10-15 dollars and may be purchased at the park entrance on the day of the event. Food tickets may be purchased separately, and beer may be purchased directly from the vendors. The public is invited to determine the winning beer in the Battle of the Brews friendly competition.
Square State owner Mike Hulen says, "I'm looking forward to the Battle of the Brews with our friends at Bad Joker. This is a great opportunity to support the arts and culture as well as the local businesses of Rock Springs and we encourage everyone to come on down and celebrate Oktoberfest with us. May the best brew win!"
All proceeds raised from the event directly benefit Actors' Mission Community Theater. The theater is beginning its 21st season of providing access to the theatrical arts in Sweetwater County. Funds will be used towards productions and the continuing building renovation that will one day house the troupes' black box theater. Actors' Mission was awarded the Mayors' Arts Award in 2020 for its outstanding contribution to the arts in Rock Springs. AM members Nina Tyler and David Gutierrez have won the award in subsequent years for their involvement in the organization. In February 2023, Actors' Mission was bestowed the Governors' Arts Award for substantial contribution to the cultural endowment of State based on the company's model to produce plays outside the realm of mainstream including original works, offering a free meal prior to every performance and never charging admission for regular season productions.
AM Board Member Rick Cozad says, "Because we don't charge admission for shows, we need fundraisers like Oktoberfest as well as regular contributions and grants to keep this program alive and well. We've managed to do that with the gracious help of our wonderful volunteers and patrons for the past 20 years. We are once again asking them to step up, step out and come support us at Oktoberfest."
