This past week the Wolves Boys and Girls Tennis teams traveled to Cheyenne to compete in the 3A South Regionals on Friday and Saturday, September 15-16. The more experienced, older girls team finished fourth out of the seven teams competing, while the young boys team was sixth out of eight teams.
All of the boys and girls team members will be competing next week at State in Gillette with their seeding based on where they finished at Regionals. The brackets for State are set and Head Coach Phillip Harder looks for his team to continue their hard work in preparation for the culminating event.
GIRLS RESULTS
The #1 Singles top finisher for Green River on the day was their #1 Singles player Brianna Strauss, who was ranked number two. Brianna won her first match defeating the sixth seed before losing to the third seed in her second match. She then came back and defeated the fourth seed to finish in third place.
#2 Singles Grace Gomez, seeded number five, won her first game, defeating the number four seed. She then lost to the number one seed in her second match before defeating the number seven seed and losing to the number two seed to finish fourth.
The #1 Doubles team of Skinner and Harris, seeded third, won their first match, defeating the number six seed. They then lost to the number two seed to finish fourth.
The #2 Doubles team of Peterson and Cochrun, seeded fifth, won their first match, defeating the number four seed, before losing to the number one seed. They then came back to defeat the number seven seed before being beaten by the number three seed to finish fourth.
The #3 Doubles team of Lopez and Beutel, seeded third, beat the sixth seed before losing to the second seed, then came back to beat the sixth seed before losing to the number four seed to finish fourth.
BOYS RESULTS
#1 Singles Chris Wilson, ranked fifth, lost in his first match to the number four seed before defeating the number 8 seed. He then lost to the number three seed.
#2 Singles Dylan Archibald, ranked fifth, lost his first match to the number four seed, then came back to defeat the number eight seed before losing in his third match to the number three seed in three games.
The #1 Doubles Team of Nielsen and Hokanson, ranked sixth, lost their first game to the number three seed before defeating the number seven seed and then losing to the number four seed.
The #3 Doubles team of Dodson and Berg, ranked fifth, lost to the fourth-seeded team in their first game and then had a bye before losing to the eighth-seeded team.
