Jennifer ("Jennie") Melvin pleaded not guilty to charges filed against her during an arraignment last Thursday afternoon in the Third District Court of Judge Richard Lavery.
Melvin, the City of Green River's former URA/Main Street Administrator, is charged with two counts of alleged felony theft over $1,000. She is suspected of embezzlement from the Green River Urban Renewal Agency (URA) and Flaming Gorge Days (FGD).
A trial date was set for January 8, 2024.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), "a total of $42,942.55 was stolen out of the FGD account by Melvin between June 8, 2022 and May 21, 2023," resulting in the first theft count, and "a total of $34,551.53 was stolen from the URA account by Melvin between January 14, 2021 and May 30, 2023," resulting in the second theft count.
Melvin had an initial appearance in circuit court but waived the preliminary hearing and the case was bound over to district court and assigned to Judge Lavery.
Melvin's bond was continued after initially being set at $75,000, which Melvin posted shortly after being arrested.
