It was a fun-filled weekend of baseball as the Knights hosted the Wood Bat Tournament at Stratton Myer fields in Green River.
Friday night at 8:30, the Green River Knights played against the Torrington Tigers.
Torrington hit the field strong, scoring eight runs in the first inning while Green River scored one run. The Tigers continued to dominate the game and Green River struggled to score. Torrington won with a final score of 21-1. Zane Kovich led the Knights with one hit in one at bats, and Q Liebelt scored one run during the game.
Saturday was a whole different ball game for Green River. At 8 a.m., the Knights played the Rawlins Generals. In the first inning, Green River scored three runs and held Rawlins from getting on the board. Green River continued to stay ahead of Rawlins, scoring nine runs in the second inning, seven runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning. Rawlins scored one run in the second inning and one run in the third inning, trailing Green River the entire game. The Knights' bats were on fire as they won the game with a final score of 23-2. Leading the team were Ben Lail with five runs, Q Liebelt with four runs and Ashton Eldredge and Lander Welch with three runs each. Brackin Lail tore up the pitcher's mound, only allowing two hits and two runs during the four innings, striking out three players and walking one.
"Saturday was a great day for us," said Head Coach Ben Lail. "On the offensive side we hit the ball really well, we ran bases and we were really sound in the field. It was a great overall day and a good team effort for sure."
At 8:30 p.m., the Knights took on the Lovell Mustangs. With both teams playing tough, the score board stayed empty as neither team scored in the first two innings. Lovell eventually got on the board with two runs to Green River's one run. Heading into the the fourth inning, Green River scored one more run and the teams were tied, 2-2. The fifth inning was another tough one, as neither team scored and the game remained tied. Green River earned the victory over Lovell when they scored seven runs in the sixth inning. Q Liebelt, Ben Lail and Ryker Dane had impressive doubles and Dallyn Bushelman had a single. Leading the team were Jace Paoli and Brackin Lail with two runs each, along with Q Liebelt, Ben Lail, Lander Welch, Dallyn Bushelman and Dawson Peterson with one run each. Ashton Eldredge pitched an amazing game, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out seven players.
"They played great baseball," added Coach Lail. "Ashton Eldredge pitched awesome for four innings and Q Liebelt came in and pitched phenomenal."
On Sunday, the Knights played the Pocatello Razorbacks. Green River couldn't keep up defensively and had a hard time getting runs on the scoreboard. Pocatello scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Green River finally got on the board, scoring three runs, but Pocatello kept the lead, scoring three more runs. During the fifth inning, Pocatello scored three more runs while Green River scored one run. Green River lost the game with a final score of 4-11. Leading the team were Brackin Lail, Jace Paoli, Oliver Akin and Dallyn Bushelman with one run each.
Coach Lail feels Ryker Dane would be the highlight of the whole weekend. Ryker had a great tournament and he played fantastic. Coach Lail would like to thank all of the sponsors for helping the Green River Knights host another successful tournament.
The Knights played conference games against Evanston yesterday and will travel to play games in Douglas this weekend.
