The Wolves Girls and Boys Track and Field teams competed in the Wyoming High School Track Championships this past weekend at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. They were up against 13 other 4A schools, almost all of which have significantly larger enrollments.
The largest contingent of athletes for Green River, both for the girls and boys, are sophomores, followed by juniors, freshman and seniors, which bodes well for the Track Program in the next few years if the athletes stick with track and work hard in the off season. Head Track Coach Dan Hansen commented that “both boys and girls teams next year with the incoming freshman class makes the future bright for the Wolves.”
Hansen was particularly pleased with the State performance of Junior Chris Wilson, who according to Hansen “had a great meet,” as he was All-State in the 300 Meter Hurdles, winning the event in a very fast 39.04. Wilson also took second in the Long Jump at 21-02.75, placed third in the 110 Meter Hurdles in 15.17, and improved on his season best in the Triple Jump by going 43-08.50 and taking fifth place.
The Coach also gave a shout out to two senior boys, both throwers, who he feels will be missed for their work — Dillon Davis and Kyler Bartlett. Davis finished 15th in the Discus with a throw of 126.02, while Bartlett threw the Shot Put 50-04.50 to take eighth place. Finally for the boys, Sophomores Trace Erdman and Christian Oswald took 15th and ninth respectively in the Pole Vault, with Erdman clearing 11-6 and Oswald clearing 12-6.
The top finisher at State for the girls was Sophomore Thrower Lillian Allison, who took 10th in the Discus with a throw of 108.04 and finished fourth in the Shot Put with a fine throw of 39.07.50. Also competing in the throws for the Lady Wolves was Freshman Sophia Arnold, who took 16th in the Shot Put with a throw of 31.08.25. In the Pole Vault, the girls’ top finishers for Green River were junior Madison Moffat and sophomore Mikayla Dockter, who tied in 14th place at 8-06.00. In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Junior Madison Murdock improved on her season best time in 49.90 to finish in 15th place. Murdock also took 10th in the 800 Meter Run, which as also a season’s best, finishing in 2:27.42.
Finally for the girls, the 4X800 Meter Relay team of Junior Madison Murdock, her two sophomore sisters Lily and Isabella, and fellow Sophomore Meeka Iwen, improved their season’s best relay time by almost 20 seconds, finishing in 10:29.03.
Coach Hansen was proud of his team’s effort, noting the staff was “impressed by the way our kids competed” and they were “pleased with the good finish in the team standings as well.”
