Boys and girls soccer take down Pinedale

The Green River High School Boys and Girls Soccer teams traveled to Pinedale to take on the Wranglers last Friday.

The Lady Wolves had a victorious win over the Lady Wranglers with a final score of 6-1. Leading the team were Isabel Vasco with six goals and Marely Magana with one goal, along with Jayla Braden with three assists, Claira Kuball with two assists and Fatima Salcedo with six saves.

"We played a good 65 minutes of the game," explained Head Coach Matt Robles. "We found possession in the attacking half and really forced Pinedale to defend most of the game."

Coach Robles said the girls need to pick up one more win to qualify to compete in the State Tournament. He feels it's tough to end the regular season on the road and it's even harder playing against the top two teams in the west conference. The Lady Wolves are taking this week "one day at a time" to help them focus on each game individually instead of looking ahead to their possible qualification.

The Wolves dominated the Wranglers with a final score of 3-0. They have won nine consecutive games and are ranked second in the 3A West Conference with a conference record of 9-1. Leading the team were Braxton Cordova, Jackson Mitchell and Damien Holmes with one goal each.

"We had a good game," said Head Coach Josh Webb. "We had a lot of shots on goal."

Green River is working on moving the ball quicker and finding the net to make more goals. They are dedicated to working hard during practices and preparing for their last two games.

"They're starting to show some really good development," explained Coach Webb. "We have our eye on Cody and Powell. We have to beat them to take the number one spot going into State."

The boys and girls soccer teams will travel to play Cody today and Powell on Friday. These will be their final games before the 3A West State Soccer Tournament, which will take place in Green River on May 18-20.
