The Green River Wolves have a mission this season: to compete in the State Championships that will be taking place in Green River this year. The boys have been conquering the field and have earned three more wins, keeping them high in the ranks for the 3A West Conference with an 8-1 record.
The Wolves Soccer team played the Lyman Eagles on Friday, keeping their eye on the prize and winning another conference game with home field advantage, with a final score of 5-2.
Leading the team was Braxton Cordova with three goals and Izyk Arellano and Guy Grace with one goal each, along with Eddie Zarate with five saves.
On Saturday, the Wolves hosted a game against the Mountain View Buffalos. The seniors were recognized during the game at half-time. The seniors honored were AB Vergara, Braxton Cordova, Damien Holmes, Jackson Mitchell, Jeremiah Salmo, Korbin Arnell, Tanner Moseley and Tyler Waters. The Wolves continued their winning streak with a final score of 2-0.
Leading the team were Braxton Cordova and Guy Grace with one goal each, along with Izyk Arellano with one assist.
Head Coach Josh Webb feels the team could have done better in both the Lyman and Mountain View games. He says they gave up some pieces during the games, but the boys learned from their mistakes and adjusted.
On Tuesday, the Wolves hosted a conference game against Lander. Green River dominated Lander and ended the game with a final score of 3-0. Leading the team were Braxton Cordova, Stone Rubeck and Braxton Doak with one goal each.
"The boys played very well," said Coach Webb. "We regain possession back really quick, get organized really quick, and defend as a team."
Coach Webb is very proud of how hard the boys have worked this year and is honored to coach such a great group of talented boys.
"They make my job easy," he said.
Coach Webb explained that AB Vergara and Braxton Cordova played a phenomenal game against Lander. He feels they are talented young men, saying that having AB on the field is like having a coach on the field, and Braxton Cordova is amazing with his feet.
On Friday, the Green River Wolves will travel to Pinedale to take on the Wranglers.
