The Green River Lady Wolves Softball team has played several games the last week and the players have found their groove. On Friday, Green River played a conference game against Natrona County.
"We were actually down to our last out and last strike," said Head Coach Blair Aimone. "The girls battled back and that's what we try to instill - the game isn't over until it's over."
Green River was able to shut Natrona County down and it was an awesome victory.
The Lady Wolves played a great game, with six runs in the seventh inning, and they won the game with a final score of 9-5.
Leading the team were Izzy Kelley, Danielle Maag and Chacee Shiner with two runs each, along with Abby Harrison, Gina Barajas and Kodi Allred with one run each.
The Lady Wolves played their second game against Natrona County, winning the game again with a final score of 7-2.
On Saturday, Green River played another conference game against Kelly Walsh. The Lady Wolves couldn't make up the difference when Kelly Walsh scored seven runs in the first inning. Green River lost the game with a final score of 3-13. The second game the Lady Wolves played against Kelly Walsh was another unfortunate loss. Kelly Walsh scored 14 points in the first two innings, and Green River struggled to score. Green River lost the game with a final score of 1-16.
Coach Aimone feels the pitcher for Kelly Walsh is very fast and it affected how the girls were batting.
"She is a fast pitcher," explained Coach Aimone. "But the funny thing about fast pitchers is the ball carries more, so it's a lot less effort on the batter's part. They just have to have quicker hands."
Coach Aimone said the girls just kind of freeze and get inside their heads and it affected how they played, but now they know what to expect and they can learn from that.
On Monday, Green River played a home conference game against Kelly Walsh. Green River showed up to play and gave Kelly Walsh a fight for the win. Kelly Walsh ended up scoring in every inning and took the lead with a final score of 20-12. Their second game was canceled due to weather.
