The Green River Lady Wolves Soccer team traveled to play a conference game against the Lyman Lady Eagles on Friday. Green River had a victorious win with a final score of 5-2. Leading the team was Isabel Vasco with two goals, along with Emily Magana, Jazlynn Hunt and Dalya Salcedo scoring one goal each. Claira Kuball and Isabel Vasco each had one assist and Fatima Salcedo had an amazing 12 saves during the game.
Head Coach Matt Robles said the field wasn't as wide as Green River usually plays on, so it caused some issues for the team early in the game. But the Lady Wolves adjusted and played very well. He was proud of three of the girls that made goals for the team during the game, Salcedo, Hunt, and Emily Magaña, all getting their first Varsity goals.
On Saturday, Green River traveled to play a conference game against the Mountain View Lady Buffalos.
"We definitely were beat up heading into the game," explained Coach Robles. "We had eight regular Varsity contributors either out before kick off or getting hurt during the game. We held them to a 3-3 tie in regulation and went into a shootout. The shootout didn't go our way."
Green River fought for the win but came up short, losing the game with a final score of 3-4.
"Games like this show our girls that even when the chips seem stacked against us, we can still compete," added Coach Robles.
The girls soccer season is heading into the seventh week, with less than a month left in the season. On Friday, Green River will host a conference game at 3 p.m. against Lyman, and Saturday they host another conference game at 11 a.m. against Mountain View. On Tuesday, May 2, Green River has another home game at 4 p.m. against Lander. Come and support the Lady Wolves during their three homes games.
