Utah-based convenience store chain Maverik announced last week it will acquire the Kum & Go chain of convenience stores in a deal that also includes a tank truck carrier and logistics firm owned by Kum & Go’s parent company.
Maverik operates one convenience store in Sweetwater County located in Green River, while Kum & Go operates four locations in Rock Springs. Maverik’s purchase expands the company’s reach by more than 400 Kum & Go locations in 13 states. Once the sale is complete, Maverik will double in size and will operate more than 800 convenience stores in 20 states.
As of right now, the company isn’t commenting on what the acquisition means for Kum & Go’s employees and customers or if Kum & Go’s branding will remain once the purchase is finalized.
“We do not have any further information to share at this time,” Michelle Monson, Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility Director for Maverik, wrote in an email to the Star.
Maverik’s purchase also includes Solar Transport, a trucking company that specializes in transporting fuels ranging from gasoline to jet fuel.
Maverik is owned by Utah-based private holding company FJ Management, which manages several companies focused on the petroleum, healthcare, and hospitality industries.
Kum & Go is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa and is owned by the Krause Group. Krause Group operates a multitude of businesses which include Italian wineries, soccer clubs, and real estate firms, as well as companies operating in the hospitality and agriculture industries. Kum & Go was founded by Bill Krause and Tony Gentle in 1959 and has been owned and operated by the Krause family for the past 63 years.
