The Green River Lady Wolves played a "nail-biter" game against the Rock Springs Lady Tigers on Friday.
Throughout the game, the Lady Wolves and Lady Tigers stayed neck-and-neck. Starting the seventh inning, Green River and Rock Springs were tied. Green River pulled ahead, taking the lead with a score of 12-11. Unfortunately, Rock Springs scored two more runs, and the Lady Wolves lost the game 12-13. Head Coach Blair Aimone believes Green River could have won the game. The girls struggled with little errors, like missed pop flies and dropped balls, and these errors cost them the game.
"That's a game that we should have won and it's a tough loss for sure," said Coach Aimone.
The Lady Wolves traveled to Cody on Monday to play two games against the Cody Fillies. The first game was a conference game and Green River struggled to score, ending the game with a loss, 0-11. The second game, Green River fought hard but came up with another loss to Cody, 1-16.
Coach Aimone feels the girls just couldn't "get the bats going." Cody has one of the best pitchers in their conference and the girls struggled to score. After the experience of playing Cody, Coach Aimone feels the team can adjust and will be better prepared next time they go up against them. She said they never gave up and kept fighting.
On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves played two games against the Worland Lady Warriors. The first game started out slow for the Lady Wolves when they had a hard time putting the bat to the ball. The game went into extra innings, and in the eighth inning Green River executed a lot of runs. The Lady Wolves had a victorious win with a final score of 17-8. The second game was a close one, but Worland pulled ahead and won the game 15-11.
"The girls played great against Worland," said Coach Aimone. "I'm really proud of them."
Several teams in the conference are improving, and Aimone feels its going to be a dog-fight the entire season.
She also thinks the biggest thing Green River's girls need to change is their mindset. They need a winning mindset, because playing to win instead of playing not to lose is different. It's hard to change that way of thinking, but she thinks they are working on it and they will get there.
Green River will travel on Friday to play two games against the Natrona County Mustangs and Saturday they will play two more games against the Kelly Walsh Trojans.
