The Green River High School Girls Soccer team played a game against the Pinedale Wranglers last Friday.
When the game began, the girls were a little nervous and you could see it in their passes and plays. Once they settled down, the team came alive and really played a great game. The Lady Wolves have strong midfield-three players that helped control the game. The rest of the team really stepped up and moved the ball down the field, making it possible for Isabel Vasco to score six goals and Jayla Braden to score two goals. Ella Stanton and Isabel Vasco also had one assist each during the game. The Lady Wolves dominated the Lady Wranglers, winning the game 8-0.
Head Coach Matt Robles said the girls were very excited about winning their first game. He said that last year they didn't score goals like this, so it really gave them a lot of confidence. He hopes to continue their winning streak and hopes the girls will keep moving the ball like they did on Friday. He also wants to focus on improving how they spread the field during the games, and he feels as the season progresses they will be able to do that with more time on the field.
The first two-day tournament that was scheduled for March 24 and 25 in Worland was canceled due to the weather conditions. The soccer team has been affected by the winter conditions, which have made practices outside difficult. It has been challenging for them to work on passing and shooting a ball on turf when there is still snow on the ground. The girls have been spending a lot of time in the gym working on "out touches" and cardio and also in the weight room, making sure they stay in shape.
Green River was scheduled to host a game against Mountain View today but the game has been canceled due to the weather.
