Wolves lose games to Rock Springs and Star Valley, headed to regionals

On Thursday, February 23 the Wolves played a game against the Tigers in Rock Springs. The gym at the Rock Springs High School was full during the Make-A-Wish game for these two rivalry teams. Green River couldn't come up with a win against Rock Springs and lost 41-62.

Leading the team for scoring was Caleb Lake with 18 points, along with Chris Wilson with six rebounds. Caleb Lake had three assists and he and Theron Archibald had two steals each.

On Saturday, the Wolves played their last conference game against the Star Valley Braves. Green River lost the game with a final score of 55-80.

Leading the team was Kason Ivie with 15 points, along with Theron Archibald with 12 points and Chris Wilson with 11 points. Nathan Mitchell had five rebounds, Caleb Lake had nine assists, and Archibald and Wilson each had two steals.

Even with Green River's losing streak, some of the athletes are still making great stats in the Top 10 Conference players for the West Region. Theron Archibald is ranked #3 in scoring, Caleb Lake is ranked #1 with assists per game and Kason Ivie is ranked #7. Caleb Lake is also ranked #2 in steals, and Kason Ivie is ranked #9 in steals.

Still, it has been a tough season for the Wolves and they were unable to win a conference game, putting them in last place in their quad. To prepare for regionals, Head Coach Laurie Ivie said they will focus on beating Riverton.

"Defense, specifically our transition D, will be incredibly important," added Coach Ivie.

The Wolves will travel to Star Valley to play in the 4A West Regionals on Thursday. Green River plays Riverton at 12 p.m., and if the Wolves win the game they will play again on Friday at 6 p.m. If they lose the game they will play again on Friday at noon, with games continuing through Saturday.
