The Green River High School Girls and Boys Indoor Track team, weather permitting, will be taking the long trip north on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, to participate in the Wyoming State Indoor Track Championships. The State tournament will be at the Gillette Sports Complex in Gillette and hosted by Campbell County High School.
The Wolves lost out this past week to compete in a Last Chance State qualifying meet at the Laramie Invitation due to inclement weather and bad roads.
The boys will have at least seven competitors at State and the girls will have at least six, with Head Track Coach Dan Hansen noting that “there may be two or three more other athletes as well going.”
The boys just picked up three pole vaulters who competed outdoors last season but have not competed yet this year, as two were on the swim team and one was in basketball. In addition, the boys have throwers Dillon Davis and Trysten Halter in the shot put and Jared Comeer in sprints and long jump, along with distance runner Nathan Stevenson.
The girls will have the Murdock sisters Isabelle, Madison and Lily in the distance runs, along with Meeka Iwen. All of these girls also make up the 4X800 Meter Relay team. In the field events the girls will have thrower Lillian Allison in the shot put and Autumn Casey in the high jump and pole vault.
Coach Hansen is looking forward to the meet as the athletes have been working hard to compete at State.
