Wolves take 3rd out of 15 teams in Lander

The Green River Wolves Swimming and Diving team had two intense days of swimming last week. On Thursday, they traveled to compete in a dual match against the Rawlins Outlaws. They won all but one of the individual events during the competition and ended the meet with a score of 115, beating Rawlins who finished with 69.

Saturday the Wolves battled 14 teams from around the state in Lander and ended up in third place. Lander and Buffalo were hard to keep up with in the pool and they earned high points, staying ahead of Green River.

Head Coach Colleen Seiloff was very happy with results from last week and said they have picked up more qualifiers. Vance Adams qualified in the 500 Yard Freestyle and Andrew Neher qualified in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle events.

"We are excited about the time cuts and they are really working hard," added Seiloff.

Braxton Cordova showed up to dive! He increased his personal best points by 13.55 and was the champion out of 23 divers, followed by River Kirts in second place. Kirts also increased his personal best points by 24.

"It felt good to come out on top with a good amount of people competing," Cordova said. "I've really been working on the finishing of my dives and making them more complete this year. My teammates also did great and I'm excited to see how we do at conference and state."

There was another top performance from Green River's Brady Young. He cut 1.35 seconds off his personal best time and conquered the 200 Yard Freestyle event. Lander's Dylan Huelskamp was only 0.31 seconds behind him. Young was also the winner of the 500 Yard Freestyle event, cutting 1.23 seconds off his personal best and beating Lander's Brayden Brown by 3.35 seconds. Colin Gilmore had an impressive third-place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle event, cutting 12.47 seconds off his personal best time.

The Wolves will travel to compete in the Gillette Invite on Friday and Saturday.
