Teamwork contributes to victories

The Green River Boys Swimming and Diving team had a fantastic weekend in the pool. They won both of the meets they competed in and the whole team contributed to the Wolves' victories.

A lot of points were racked up in both meets thanks to the competitive divers that Green River has this year. Braxton Cordova took first place in both meets, followed by top finishers Kyle Kight and River Kirts. This senior trio has improved so much this season and they have really assisted the underclassmen.

On Friday, at the Rock Springs Invite, Ryan Fischer had an impressive first-place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle event. He also had a great third-place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle race. Brady Young, who has been swimming the 200 and 500 Yard Freestyle events, went a different route, competing in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and snagging another first-place finish for the season. He was also racing in the 200 Yard IM and was sadly disqualified. Zeke Reading glided through the water in the 100 Yard Backstroke and won second place. He also competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle event and came in fifth place. Sophomore Aiden Zimmerman has been consistently cutting times and moving up the ranks, making him a great asset for the relay teams this year. He took third place in the 100 Yard Butterfly and fifth in the 200 Yard IM.

On Saturday, the Wolves traveled to compete in the Evanston Invite. Starting off the meet, the "A" relay team grabbed 32 points after they won the race ahead of Evanston. The points continued to roll in for Green River for the rest of the meet, putting them ahead of all the other teams.

It was a great day in the water for Ryan Fischer, who won the 200 Yard Freestyle race, cutting over five seconds off his personal best time. He also brought home another first-place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Zeke Reading had powerful races, finishing first in the 100 Yard Butterfly and second in the 200 Yard IM. Brady Young's quick swimming skills scored him a win in the 100 Yard Backstroke. He also cut time off of his personal best and came in third place in the 50 Yard Freestyle event.

Coach Colleen Seiloff was very happy with the results this weekend.

"I have been working them very hard and they swam really well," she said. "They showed up and were very competitive."

This weekend Seiloff let them try different events and the boys got to pick what events they wanted to swim.

"This gave them the chance to do something different, because sometimes we get stuck doing the same events and it's nice to see them improve in different areas," she explained.

The Wolves picked up another qualifier over the weekend, Logan Wadsworth, in the 100 Yard Backstroke. They now have a total of 13 state-qualified swimmers and divers.

The Wolves will compete in Cheyenne on Friday and Saturday. They will be competing in Cheyenne East's new pool and Seiloff says it's going to be fun.
