It’s the start of a new year — the time when people reevaluate their lives and make resolutions in order to make changes. Usually these changes are in an effort to continually be growing and improving.
As a newspaper, we wanted to make a few small changes of our own as we head into the new year. You may have already noticed little changes in the paper over the last six months as our dynamic duo team of Jackie and Hannah have adjusted to putting out the paper every week (along with the help and support of our amazing part-time team and stringers, who we couldn’t do it without). Going forward into the new year, we want to keep making the paper our own through other little adjustments.
Perhaps the biggest “little adjustment” is right on the front page of this week’s paper, with the new “flag” design where the paper’s name is. We just wanted to do something a little new and different while also going back to a similar look as past Star logos. We also plan to keep adjusting things within the paper, always finding ways to include more of what’s happening in the community. As always, we value the community’s feedback in what we’re doing well and what we can do better.
We’re also excited and honored to be chosen by the Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners as the County Newspaper of Record for 2023. This means you’ll be able to look at the Star to see county notices including the board meeting minutes, public hearings, delinquent property taxes, and more. By Wyoming state statute, every county has to publish their legal notices, and they must choose a print newspaper within the county to publish them in. This is an important part of freedom of information and government transparency, and we are honored to have the opportunity to continue promoting these ideals. We also value our ongoing working relationship with the county to help them share important information with the public.
As a newspaper, we want to be continually growing and improving while honoring the legacy of the Star in serving our community for over 100 years.
