Christmas lights, hot cocoa, and a photo-op with the Clauses will all be part of the Green River Arts Council's first annual Light Fest this weekend.
"The Arts Council is always looking for different ways to raise funds to do different art projects or programs in the community," Katie Duncombe, the Arts Council city liaison, explained. "They wanted to do [the Light Fest] as a fundraiser and to just bring something new and exciting to the community that is kind of arts-based for the holidays, and there's really nothing like that in Green River or Rock Springs."
The idea for a walk-through light festival came from Bryce Castillion, who brought the idea to the Arts Council and worked with Riverside Nursery to have a space to make it happen.
"They just thought it would be a good addition to the community and something for people to do around the holidays to get out and be a little active too," Duncombe said.
The event is designed to support the Arts Council's goals of fostering art and community pride within Green River through art-related events and local beautification.
Everyone is invited to attend the Light Fest "to enjoy an amazing light show through Riverside Nursery's garden along with the ability to buy from local artists, which can make great presents this holiday," according to a press release.
"The Green River Arts Council would like to give a big thanks to the City of Green River for helping install and place lights at Riverside Nursery, Riverside Nursery for allowing us to use the space and all the volunteers we have to make this event a possibility," the press release said.
Admission will be $3 per person or $10 per family, with no limit on family size. Hot cocoa will be available to purchase, and a photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available with a requested donation. Other photos with the light show can be taken for free.
All money will help fund the Green River Arts Council, especially their annual Art on the Green competition in August.
The Light Fest will be hosted from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10, at Riverside Nursery at 100 E 2nd S Street.
