Swimmers take on tough competition in Laramie

It was a very competitive weekend for the swimmers. The Lady Wolves traveled to Laramie for the Laramie Invitational that took place Friday and Saturday.

There were 22 teams that were participating in the events and there were only two swimmers that were double event winners. Ashlyn Mathes from Laramie won the 200 and the 500 Yard Freestyle. Green River's Tavia Arnell won the 200 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Butterfly.

"She is a great freshman swimmer with great work ethic and she just goes for it," commented Head Coach Colleen Seiloff.

The Lady Wolves had several swimmers that didn't swim in the meet. There were a couple that were dealing with sore shoulders so they decided to have them rest so they would be ready for conference this weekend. Green River missed out on some points with Tanith Smith sitting out. There were also some girls that had to miss because they are in band.

Out of 22 teams Green River came in seventh place.

"We swam good, we didn't swim amazing but I didn't expect us to at this time of year," said Seiloff. "We didn't place as high as I know we could have but they still swam very well, very solid and competitive."

"We have conference this weekend so that will be a tough one," said Seiloff. There's seven teams that are in the conference. Lander is one of them so it will be interesting to see what happens.

As far as practices, the Wolves are still hitting it hard and adding more technique. They will continue to be diligent and then after conference and the Last Chance meet they will take a little rest before state.

"I'm excited about conference and state. I think we have a chance to do some really good stuff," added Seiloff.

Tavia Arnell and Courtney Clark are qualified for state in all eight swimming events. Brianna Uhrig and Tanith Smith are qualified in seven events; Haley Clevenger in six events; Ivory Neher in four events; Hailey Luth and Madison Moffat in three events; Emilee Barnes in two events and Chezni Rubeck with one event. There are two divers qualified for state: Zella Maez and Olive Roberts. With two more meets left before state, the Wolves are hoping to get even more qualifiers.

Conference will take place in Rawlins on Friday and Saturday.
