Golf team continues to improve

“The Lander Invite proved to be another great tournament for GRHS Golf,” Assistant Coach Danielle Salas said.

Green River once again had three boys in the top 20. Sophomore Kaleb Gunter came in 14th with 178, Sophomore Ashton Lucero took 11th with a 177, and Senior Ryker Mele had a fantastic finish to take top five honors as the fourth place medalist with a 162. Mele had a “fantastic finish,” according to Coach Salas, and this is his third consecutive week taking medalist honors and his best season in his time as a GRHS golfer.

This is also the third consecutive week the boys team has placed fourth.

“Juniors Tyler Castillon and Zayn Draney both contributed to our solid finish, both breaking 100 on day one, posting scores of 99 and 98 respectively,” Coach Salas said. “This is the strongest boys team we’ve ever taken into a postseason. All five of our varsity boys team members have consistently played better throughout the season, including everyone posting their personal best scores.”

On the girls’ side, Sophomore Taylor Jenny narrowly missed the top 10, coming in at 12th, which is one of her best finishes to date, according to Salas.

The Wolves will head back to Lander for the 3A West Conference Tournament this weekend.
