Tennis teams takes on opponents

The Green River Wolves Boys and Girls Tennis teams traveled to White Mountain Junior High in Rock Springs for a “home” meet against teams from Casper who were also playing Rock Springs teams this past Friday. Green River helped out by traveling back and forth for the Casper teams and conducted their “home play” on the Rock Springs courts.

The young Lady Wolves girls team was shut out by Kelly Walsh 5-0, with the No. 2 team from Green River of Shania Flores and Lilly Harris putting up the closest scores, losing 6-4 and 7-5.

The continuing-to-improve Lady Wolves came up with their first win of the season against Natrona County as they won three of five matches to take the win 3-2. Winners for Green River included the No. 1 singles player Brianna Strauss, the No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Skinner and Grace Gomez and the No. 3 doubles team of Raygan Cochrun and Jocelyn Peterson.

The older, more experienced boys team dominated play against both Kelly Walsh and Natrona County, not dropping a set and winning both matches 5-0. The No. 1 and 2 singles players, Braxton Cordova and Korbin Arnell respectively, won their matches. The No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams of Zach Friel and Taylon Tirrell, David Ross and Chris Wilson and Michael Nielsen and Travis Archibald all won as well.

Coach Harder was pleased with the results as he commented that the matches against the Casper teams went well. Harder was happy to see the girls get their first dual win of the season against Natrona. He observed that it was exciting for them and they played better. The Coach felt “our boys took care of business against both NC and KW, not dropping a set to either school.” The Coach also said that “our boys are working on their movement and taking to heart the strategies we preach.”
