Cross country girls almost perfect score

The Green River Girls and Boys Cross Country teams hosted their rivals from Rock Springs in their first home meet of the season at the Rolling Green Country Club Golf Course west of Green River on a 5,000 meter race course this past Friday.

The boys team lost to Rock Springs with a team point total of 21 for Rock Springs to 34 for Green River. In cross country, the lowest point total wins. Rock Springs junior Ethan Sholey won the race with an excellent time of 18:26.81 while Green River’s senior Nathan Stevenson also ran a fine race to take second in 19:08.67.

The situation was just the opposite for the girls as the Lady Wolves took five of the top six spots to win the meet with a team score of 20-37. Rock Springs junior Aubrielle Maes won the race in 23:01.76 with the top finisher for Green River being Isabelle Murdock who ran the race in 24:10.70.

After the race, Green River’s head cross country coach Craig Leavitt commented: “The girls ran awesome. They are of to a great start.”

They had an almost perfect score in the meet, according to Levinson, taking second through sixth place, with a perfect score being first thru fifth.

Coach Leavitt went on to say: “Our entire girls varsity team has returned from last year and it is definitely showing in their performances.” He further stated that “they worked hard over the last year and are ready to compete.” Leavitt feels that “this is one of the hardest working girls team I have ever had the privilege of coaching.”

Coach Levitt also felt that the boys are off to a good star with Nathan taking second place. The coach felt that Shay O’Melia ran particularly well.

Leavitt did observe that they did not have their full varsity boys team attending this meet and that he was impressed with the new boys and felt they are also off to a good start.
