The Lady Wolves volleyball team has been working hard to prepare for their season and is ready to be competitive.
"We are feeling very optimistic," Head Coach Jessica Demaret said. "We have had a lot of girls in the gym over the summer working really hard and getting a good jump start on the beginning of our season."
Through their work over the summer, the Green River High School volleyball team has focused on skills including ball control and serving, according to Demaret. In her first season as head coach, Demaret is hoping to help the team continue to improve their volleyball skills and pay attention to little details that will pay off in the end.
"I think some of the things that we want to improve on over the year would be just building our confidence and realizing that we can win volleyball games and be competitive," Demaret said.
The team's first chance to be competitive will come this weekend during the Cokeville Invitational. The Lady Wolves will face several other teams from around the state on Friday and Saturday.
"We just want to go out and see where we're at competing against other people, and hopefully get a good sense of what we need to work on moving forward," Demaret said.
As they move forward, the team will have several home games, which Demaret hopes will be well-attended to help give the girls more confidence and a greater home-field advantage. She said the team is hoping to advertise their games more and has moved some things around so people can attend, including moving their game during homecoming week to be right before the football game and at Lincoln Middle School as well so people can go to the volleyball game and football game back to back.
Regardless of where they play, Demaret hopes the team members will use the skills they've practiced and continue to get better.
"Our biggest goal right now is to really go out there and be competitive at not only the varsity level but every level and surprise some people with how much we've improved over the years," Demaret said.
