The Lady Wolves volleyball team has been honing their own skills and helping build the skills of others through volleyball camps this summer.
Last week the team hosted a three-day camp for middle schoolers in grades six to eight at Green River High School.
"It's a great way to get a jumpstart for their middle school season coming up in a few weeks, and an awesome way to just kind of get good practice on all those fundamentals that the younger kids really need to hone in on," GRHS Head Volleyball Coach Jessica Demaret said.
The coaching staff and members of the volleyball team ran the camp and worked with the middle school participants. They practiced fundamental skills like passing, setting and serving, and they played fun games and six-on-six volleyball matches.
"For the high school girls, I think it's awesome that they can be in the gym and the younger girls can see them," Demaret said. "They start to be role models for some of those younger volleyball players and just kind of build a relationship over a few days with some of those younger girls, so they're excited to come to Green River High School volleyball games and recognize faces out on the court."
In addition to helping younger players, the Lady Wolves team members have been spending the summer getting ready for their upcoming season.
"We've been in the gym pretty consistently for the past two months already," Demaret said, explaining the team has had open gyms a few times a week ever since the spring semester ended.
The team members have also had several of their own camps and have been concentrating on building up fundamental skills.
"We've really stressed passing and serving, just because we feel like if we can do those two things well, then we can win volleyball games," Demaret explained. "So the girls have been putting in a lot of hard work, a lot of extra time, and just have gotten so much better already just in the last two months."
