The Green River Fire Department had a busy Tuesday evening after being dispatched to a possible structure fire and a carbon monoxide alarm.
At 7:17 p.m., the GRFD responded to a fire call at 355 Aspen Street. When firefighters arrived moments later, the home was filled with smoke, but no flames were visible and the occupants were still inside. After evacuating and ventilating the residence, fire fighters determined the source of the smoke to be from electronics on the home’s furnace.
The second call at 9 p.m. to 1750 Hitching Post No. 55 involved an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters did not detect carbon monoxide when they arrived. Larry Erdmann, co-fire chief, said if an alarm for either fire or carbon monoxide goes off, he wants to remind residents to leave the building. With carbon monoxide in particular, the gas is odorless and tasteless and can overcome someone exposed to it without them realizing they’re exposed.
