Competition at the state indoor track meet in Gillette went as expected for the Green River High School squads.
Green River had two All-State competitors in Kaelea Gibson and Hayden Roberts. Both medaled in the High Jump competition, with Gibson taking third for the girls with a jump of 5-2 and Roberts earning second for the boys with 6-2. Roberts also took ninth in the 55-Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.36 while Lillian Munoz had a top-ten finish for the girls in the same event, taking 10th with a time of 9.58.
Head indoor track coach Dan Hansen said the teams fared as well as he expected, saying it can be difficult to compete with larger schools that have indoor track facilities. Hansen said the situation will change for Green River next year when the schools with indoor track facilities will be separated from the schools lacking them, a move expected to give Green River and other schools a more even playing field during the indoor track season.
