With three regional champs in their fold, a team of 15 wrestlers will travel to the state wrestling tournament in Casper to take on the best wrestlers in 3A.
The team took second at Regionals over the weekend, falling behind the Star Valley squad that clenched the regional title.
Those taking regional titles were Zach Weipert, Kale Knezovich and Connor Todd.
Wrestlers placing at the competition were Deylin Miller taking second, Spencer Wright, James Herwaldt and Jaxxon Gomez taking third and Axel MacKinnon and Brett Stanton taking fourth in their weight divisions.
“The kids wrestled pretty tough,” head coach Josh Wisniewski said. “We made some fixable mistakes we’re working on this week.”
With the final week of practices winding down, Wisniewski said the main goal is getting the boys in top shape for the tournament.
“We’ll get better this week, and we’ll let it rip this weekend,” he said.
Wisniewski believes the boys have a shot at the state title, but admits 3A is stacked with tough teams, not limited to Star Valley. He said other tough squads in the event are from Douglas, Pinedale and Cody.
“It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out this weekend,” he said.
