After more than one year out of office, former President Donald Trump raised eyebrows earlier this week when he complimented Russian President Vladimir Putin for action the government has taken towards Ukraine.
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen and I said ‘This is genius,’” Trump said on a right-wing radio show Tuesday. “Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine ... as independent. Oh that’s wonderful.”
Russia isn’t an ally of the United States and non-Russian intelligence from several countries including the United States cite the action as an invasion, not the peacekeeping mission Putin says. Trump’s recent comments about the escalating crisis between Russia and Ukraine should cement his ideology as extremely disingenuous to the concept of democracy.
What’s worse is Wyomingites have watched as several Wyoming politicians fell over themselves in an attempt to get Trump’s stamp of approval in their bid to unseat Rep. Liz Cheney after she was vilified by several members of the GOP for her vote to impeach him following the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol. What does an endorsement from Trump really mean?
Trump does not have the best interests of the United States or its citizens in mind. He only has what’s in his best interests. His admiration of political strong men and dictators reflects that.
It’s time to step away from the Trump train. Those rails don’t lead to prosperity or a greater nation. They lead to a far darker place, as the Jan. 6 riots have already shown.
