Schools to see summer projects

More than $300,000 in various summer projects received approval from the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees Tuesday night.

A majority of the costs involved focus on work at Green River High School, but other schools and the transportation department will receive attention as well. The projects also include a $30,000 expenditure from the district’s recreation mill levy to place a marquee sign at Truman Elementary School.

Regarding the marquee, Trustee Steve Core said the district purchased them for Lincoln Middle School and other schools under an agreement that they would be used to promote school activities and other recreational events. He said it was originally part of the summer list, but was moved to recreation mill funding.

According to the project list, $203,000 will be spent on work at GRHS. The projects include refinishing the woodshop’s floor, roofing work on the building, installing LED lighting in the theater classroom, locker room flooring work and cleaning out the locker storage areas at the school.

Two projects at Washington Elementary School are estimated to cost $55,000 and will focus on building a taller fence and replacing the playground’s blacktop.

The school’s transportation department will get an electronic gate with remote entry and keypads at both sides of the gate. The floor inside the transportation building will also be worked on because of a crack that has developed allowing ants and other pests entry inside. In total, the estimated costs for both is $40,000. Monroe Elementary School will receive new cameras this summer, along with an entry keypad at the southwest entrance to the school in projects estimated to cost $18,000.

Harrison Elementary School will receive a new camera in a project estimated to cost $1,300 and a $15,000 roof project listed under the technology department will take place as well.
