YWCA of Sweetwater County’s Festival of Trees 2021 kicked off a festive start to the new year and helped raise over $20,000 to help support YWCA clients.
The Festival of Trees is held each December to raise funds for all the services that YWCA offers to the community.
This year the event was back in person after the 2020 event had to go fully online due to pandemic restrictions. While supporters still decorated trees and donated baskets it was not the same as the big live auction event. This year’s event was back with all the fun and festive cheer.
John Gibbens was the auctioneer that night and kept the crowd entertained while auctioning off sixteen full-size decorated trees. Over 50 items ranging from gift baskets to wreaths to holiday decor were auctioned in the online silent auction. Overall the event, which has become a signature event in the community, raised more funds than in prior years.
YWCA services help individuals and families in the community through all the ups and downs of life. The organization provides advocates who support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, quality childcare for working families and financial education classes to give families more control over their day to day financial choices. “We believe the services we provide are important and necessary to strengthen our community and the people who live here,” YWCA Executive Director Melinda Baas said.
