Kaylou Lightner

After a life filled with love, kindness and devotion, Kaylou Lightner went to heaven Nov. 5, 2021, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 75.

Kaylou was a Rock Springs native, born Aug. 22, 1946 to Louis and Catherine McGarvey Muir.

Kaylou's mother died in November 1953, when Kaylou was just 7 and her younger brother, Louie, was 5. Several years later their father married Isabell Lucas who stepped in and help raise her and her brother.

Kaylou married the love of her life, Don Lightner, on Sept. 2, 1967, and spent the next 54 years in an adventurous and blessed life together.

Besides her family and friends, Kaylou loved camping, traveling, reading, floral design, crafting, painting and playing cards. She was in several card clubs and played in the same pinochle club for close to 50 years. She also had an ongoing Scrabble game with her lifelong friend, Anita Wall.

Kaylou also loved children. Each summer, she would gather the available youngsters - grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews - and take them to a movie matinee or the swimming pool. She also loved working with children and young people, spending close to 30 years in the local school system, with most of her time at Rock Springs High School.

As a member of Ordinary Faith church and a longtime member of the Christian Women's Club, Kaylou's deep Christian values came natural to her. She was selfless, loved her neighbor as herself and had the kindest, most forgiving heart imaginable.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don; mother, Isabell Muir; three sons: Glen (Tami), Paul (Stephanie) and George; grandchildren, Zachary, Jackson, Lucas, Gus (Jessica), Nic (Aubrey Bostick), Maxwell (Taylor Savola), Dylan, Miranda; one great-grandchild, Gus Jr .; brother, Louie (Pam) Muir; nieces, Danielle (Brad) Borg, Trudi (Andy) Wells and Kayci Muir; and aunts and cousins who adored her.

She is now reunited with her parents, and two beautiful granddaughters, Chantal and Storey.

The family respectfully requests donations in Kaylou's memory be made to Ordinary Faith, 2400 Reagan Avenue, Rock Springs, Wyoming 82901

Cremation will take place; a Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the Sweetwater Events Complex, 3320 Yellowstone Road, Rock Springs, Wyoming 82901
