Volleyball coach steps down

Longtime Green River High School volleyball coach Rikki Shantz has decided to step down from her position.

An announcement was issued Tuesday evening by Athletics Director Tony Beardsley.

“It has been an honor to work with so many great student-athletes over the years,” Shantz said in a statement released by Beardsley. “Watching my volleyball girls chase their dreams and give their all has been the joy of my life. My heart and life are better because of the great people in this chapter of my life. My next chapter will be watching my daughters chase their dreams and focusing on family for the next few years.”

Shantz was the head volleyball coach for 14 seasons.

During that time, she coached one 4A state championship team and one West Regional Tournament Championship team, as well as six teams that have qualified to the 4A state championship tournament.

She earned the Wyoming High School State Coach of the Year honor, was nominated as the Wyoming West Regional Coach of the Year three times, and was a Wyoming High School All-Star Coach.

She coached seven 4A All-State volleyball players, 26 4A West All-Conference players and six athletes who continued to play volleyball into the collegiate level.

There is no date set to begin the search for Shantz’s replacement.

“Coach Shantz has put in a great deal of time over the years with our Green River High School Volleyball program,” Beardlsey said. “It’s been a pleasure working with Rikki and I wish her the best in all that she does. Coach Shantz is a special person who cares deeply about the sport of volleyball and all of the student-athletes she’s coached.”
