Football team remains winless after Jackson

Green River traveled north to take on the powerful 4-0 Jackson Broncs last week, suffering another loss at the end of the night.

Jackson wasted no time in their first possession as they opened up their strong passing attack and took a quick 7-0 lead. The Wolves took over and ran six plays with the help of a 15-yard personal foul against Jackson, but Dylan Tayor ended up punting to the 35 yard line with Hayden Roberts making the tackle on Jackson’s receiver.

Jackson would soon extend its lead to 13-0, unable to capitalize on a P.A.T., following a bad snap. Jackson showed why they are one of the top teams in the State as their defense shut the Wolves out and forced another punt from the Wolves.

Despite the strong support from the home crowd, Green River’s defense rose to the occasion with junior Jacob Schieve sacking the Jackson quarterback and forced a Jackson punt to the Wolves. Jackson then turned up the defensive pressure with two straight sacks. The Wolves offense just could not get going and had to punt the ball back to Jackson, who showed balance between two runs and two complete passes, scoring off a short run and another missed P.A.T, taking the game to 19-0.

On the Wolves next series, their offense improved as Hayden Roberts picked up the running load and carried the ball five times in their drive. The Wolves scored after quarterback Caleb Lake passed to Taylor for 29 yards and a second play where Lake ran the ball into the endzone.

The P.A.T. was blocked, but the Wolves posted their first score, sending the game to 19-6.

Jackson wasted no time with a good kickoff return and after a couple of completed passes they ran the ball in from the 7-yard line to up their lead to 26-6 after a successful P.A.T.

The Wolves had one more offensive series before halftime, but Jackson’s defense came up tough once more and the Wolves punted back to Jackson after running just three offensive plays. The Wolves stopped Jackson on a good defensive play by Kyler Barlett on a Jackson fumble and the teams went into half time with Jackson holding a 26-6 lead.

Jackson kicked to Green River to start the second half and despite a large lead, they attempted an on-sides kick but the Wolves Alex Atkinson covered the ball and the Wolves had the ball. Unfortunately the Jackson defense pressured the Wolves on passes and stopped Green River’s running game, forcing another punt. Taylor sent a long punt to the Broncs, which was returned 14 yards to the 34-yard line to give Jackson good field position once more. Jackson completed their first two passes with Austyn Maser and Conner Todd proving the defense. Then Maser and Jacob Schieve applied pressure to Jackson’s quarterback to hold him to just a 3-yard gain. Braden Morrell made a spectacular one handed interception to stop the Jackson offense on the next play and turned the ball back to the Wolves.

Three plays later, Lake connected a pass with junior Skyler Lee, who took it in for a score to make it 26-12 after the Wolves failed on a 2-point conversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jackson had two big offensive plays, running it in from 37 yards out to get another quick score to expand their lead to 33-12.

The Wolves got a good 20-yard kickoff return from Lee, but once again Jackson’s defense dominated on three plays and closed the Wolves’ offense. On their next series Jackson ran seven plays before connecting on a 9-yard pass for the touchdown and a 40-12 lead.

On the Wolves’ next series they got a couple good offensive plays from Schieve and Roberts but had to punt the ball back to Jackson just as the quarter ended trailing 40-12.

Jackson then mounted a long drive culminating in another run for a touchdown and after the P.A.T. kick was blocked, the Broncs held a dominating 46-12 lead.

Before the game was over, Jackson’s defense had stopped the Wolves on a couple more drives and the Broncs scored again on a 14-yard run to allow the Broncs to continue their undefeated season 53-12.
