Local attorneys elected to state bar

Two local attorneys were recently voted to the Wyoming State Bar.

Chief Deputy County Attorney Teresa Thybo was elected to become the vice president of the organization while Jason Petri was elected to be a commissioner representing the Third Judicial District for the Wyoming State Bar. Petri, while operating a law office in Rock Springs, also serves as Green River’s municipal court judge.

Thybo succeeds R. Scott Kath of Powell to the vice president position while Petri succeeds Thybo as commissioner.

Thybo came to Sweetwater County in 2010, joining the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office under former County Attorney Brett Johnson, becoming the office’s chief deputy in 2015. She initially studied at Casper College in its paralegal program and worked at Beech Street Law Office. She transferred to the University of Wyoming and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication. She worked for attorneys Mike Schilling and Greg Winn in Laramie, and after graduation she worked for Corthell and King, PC, in Laramie. She left to work for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, but missed Wyoming and decided to return.

After working at the Sundance Times newspaper in Sundance, she returned to Laramie and Corthell and King, then was accepted to the University of Wyoming College of Law. During her third year of law school, she interned at the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office. Upon passing the bar, she sought a position in the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office.

Thybo will serve as a member-at-large for the board of commissioners and is a member of the Wyoming State Bar’s executive committee.

Petri is also no stranger to the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office. He graduated from the University of Wyoming’s College of Law in 1993. He worked for the county attorney’s office for 12 years, eventually being appointed to Sweetwater County Attorney in March 2006. Afterward, he started a private practice in Rock Springs focusing on family and juvenile law. In 2008, he became the Green River Municipal Court judge.
