Following the Wolf Pack: Dancers host annual camp

The kids kept their eyes on their Wolf Pack teachers while they danced, carefully following the movements as they practiced their routine during this year's "Jr. Wolves Dance Camp" put on by the Green River High School Wolf Pack Dance Team.

About 70 kids from preschool through sixth grade gathered at Lincoln Middle School for this year's dance camp, according to Wolf Pack coach Debi Kovick. The camp consisted of two hour-and-a-half-long sessions held one week apart, during which kids learned and rehearsed a new dance routine.

Camp participants were split into groups based on their grade level, and each group was led by two to three Green River High School Wolf Pack Dance Team members. The Wolf Pack members taught their group the routine, which was choreographed by Coach Kovick to the song "Dynamite" by BTS.  Groups spread out in the Lincoln Middle School gymnasium and on the grass outside during the second camp session. They spent most of their time practicing the routine they'd learned the previous week, but also took time to take breaks and play dance-themed games. At the end of the session, all the groups performed the routine together before having a snack.

Dance camp participants had the chance to share their hard work on Aug. 27, when the kids performed their routine during the Green River High School football team's jamboree scrimmage against Mountain View High School. Coach Kovick explained that this is the first time the Jr. Wolves Dance Camp participants have performed with the GRHS football team. She said the Wolf Pack Dance Team wanted to make the event even bigger this year than in the past, especially since so many things were canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and because the dance camp is something that the Wolf Pack always looks forward to.

"It's one of our favorite events that we do every year," Kovick said.
