Tennis team sees early successes

Green River High School's tennis teams have already started their season and Coach Phil Harder is happy with what he's seen so far.

The Wolves have played three matches, with a fourth competition between the Wolves and the Rock Springs Tigers taking place at home today.

Harder said the girls squad has a lot of returning experience hitting the court this season.

"They're ready to go now," Harder said, believing the group to be ready for mid and late-season play. The girls have won two of their first three competitions, with the girls going 3-2 against Cody, 4-1 against Powell, but going 3-2 against Jackson.

While the boys team is a lot younger and inexperienced, he said they're coming together and playing well. He said they're playing the points and need to start thinking about the strategy inherent to the game, such as thinking through the volley and planning where they want to place the ball next

"We've got some work to do," he said about the boys team.

The boys squad has been winless thus far, falling 4-1 against Jackson, 4-1 against Powell and getting swept 5-0 by Cody.

While there is some work for Harder and his coaching staff with the boys, he said many of the newer players on the boys varsity squad are stepping up into leadership roles.
