Helene B. Novotny, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center in Green River, Wyoming. Mrs. Novotny was a life-long resident of Wyoming.
Helene was born March 1, 1937 in Rock Springs, Wyoming; the daughter of Louis Yakse and Mildred Christensen.
She attended schools in Rock Springs, and was a 1955 graduate of Rock Springs High School. Mrs. Novotny also attended the University of Wyoming where she earned a Bachelors of Education Degree.
Helene married John Novotny on June 13, 1959 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
She worked as an Elementary Teacher for Sweetwater County School District #1 for 39 years until her retirement in 2000.
Mrs. Novotny was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community.
She enjoyed, writing; traveling; trivia; cooking; gardening; movies; collecting hand bells from every place she traveled; jokes; Rock Springs and Wyoming History. Mrs. Novotny had a lifetime project of buying coats and shoes for underprivileged children.
Survivors include, her husband, John Novotny of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one son, Mike Novotny of Evanston, Wyoming; two daughters, Keri Griffith and husband Curt of Sheridan, Wyoming; Jana Bates of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Kaden Griffith; Shawn Novotny; Brandon Novotny; Devon Erickson; as well as several great-grandchildren; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews.
Helene was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Louis Yakse and William Yakse.
Following Cremation, A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Inurnment will be in the Rock Springs City Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service.
