Green River Basin FCU merges with WyHy FCU

Green River Basin Federal Credit Union is now part of the WyHy credit union family.

A merger between the two credit unions was approved during a Green River Basin membership meeting last week. According to a press release, the credit union will remain at its location on 131 E. Railroad Ave. The staff will also remain in place.

“This merger was not compelled by our federal regulator,” Kelly Davis, President of Green River Basin FCU said. “Our board believes that this will enhance the offerings and choices available to our members.”

The merger was also approved by the National Credit Union Administration. According to Bill Willingham, President and CEO of WyHy, the

Green River Basin was founded March 21, 1967 when six Union Pacific employees were loaned $5,000 and established the credit union. The credit union wouldn’t have an office until October 1969, when Babe Stone was appointed its manager and an office was established in an enclosed front porch at Stone’s home. That would remain the office for the next 20 years.

WyHy was chartered in 1953 and has more than $300 million in assets and 17,000 members throughout the state. The credit union has branches in Green River, Casper and Cheyenne.
