Stella L. Martinez

Stella L. Martinez, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at her home in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She is a lifelong resident of Rock Springs. Mrs. Martinez died following a lengthy illness.

She was born on September 3, 1937 in Rock Springs, Wyoming; the daughter of Ysabel Portillo and Teresa Gutierrez.

Mrs. Martinez attended schools in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She received her certificate for becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.

She worked for Hospice of Sweetwater County as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She also worked at the Youth Home as a caretaker as well as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

She enjoyed spending time and raising her family. Her interests include her work, cooking especially tortillas and playing one arm bandits.

Survivors include two sons, Dan Martinez of Fremont, Nebraska; Duane Martinez of LaShara, Nebraska; three daughters, Rose Marie Petty of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Tina Jeffery of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Diane Elmer of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one brother, Jesse Portillo of Rock Springs, Wyoming; 34 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, four sons, Jerome Martinez; Lorenzo W. Martinez; Richard Martinez; James Martinez; one daughter, Veronica Jackson; six brothers, Ralph Portillo; Manual Portillo; Joseph Portillo; Richard Portillo; Ray Portillo; Peter Portillo; seven sisters, Julia Mondragon; Juana Abeyta; Clara Opfer; Ramona Ortez; Margaret Bell; Antonia Portillo; Mary Portillo.

Private family services will be held.
