Powell loss a 'wake-up call' for Wolves

The Wolves soccer team notched two more losses over the weekend, losing 2-0 to Jackson and 5-1 against Powell.

For head coach Kahler Dawson, the Powell loss in particular is something he hopes will serve as a wake-up call for his players. While he said he liked the fact the Wolves never gave up during the game, despite facing a steep score deficit, Dawson knows his players are better than they’ve been playing.

“We’re not a boom ball team,” Dawson said, saying the term “boom ball” means players and teams who simply kick the soccer ball hard over their opponents.

He sees the Wolves as a strong defensive team capable of holding their own and seeks to return the team to that level.

During the past few practices, Dawson said he’s seeing players wanting to return to that level as well.

“The intensity has been better in practice,” he said.

He also continues to move players around, seeking out the positions they’re best suited for. During the next week, the Wolves won’t have any games scheduled, giving them ample time to build themselves up to the level Dawson knows they can compete at.
